TomoHanzi is built around learning on your device. This app policy matches the policy available inside TomoHanzi.

Your learning stays on your device
TomoHanzi has no accounts, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Your review history, study plan, optional name and interests, and generated examples are stored locally. The app and its widgets share this storage. Your device backup settings may include this data in a backup managed by Apple.
Microphone and speech
Spoken drills use your microphone only during the drill. Pitch analysis runs on your device. An attempt is recorded temporarily so you can listen back, then deleted when you leave the drill or start a new attempt. Optional word checking uses Apple's on-device Mandarin speech recognition after you grant Speech Recognition permission. Audio is not sent to an online recognizer; unavailable on-device recognition is shown as unavailable.
Optional progress backup
Automatic backup is off until you enable it. Local backups stay in this app's storage. If you enable iCloud Drive, progress, collections, reading places, and sentence-practice records are stored in your private Apple iCloud account and can merge across your devices. The developer cannot access those files. A reset turns automatic backup off and keeps existing backup files; reinstall recovery requires iCloud or an export you saved separately.
Location and motion
Words that fit the moment is optional and off by default on a new install. If you enable it, location speed and motion help choose words for your current activity. Raw location and motion readings are not stored or sent to the developer. You can disable this feature in You and revoke permissions in iOS Settings.
Notifications and personalization
Evening reminders are optional local notifications. Personalized example sentences use Apple's on-device model when available; otherwise the curated examples remain. Your name and interests are not sent to the developer.
Purchases and audio
Apple processes subscriptions, one-time purchases and restores through StoreKit. TomoHanzi receives purchase status, not your payment details. Pronunciation and reading audio are included in the app and play offline. No voice model is downloaded, and text is not sent to a speech service during use.
Diagnostics
TomoHanzi keeps a local journal of coarse app events and crash or hang summaries, capped at 500 events and 30 days. It does not record your answers or word content. This journal is not uploaded automatically. Apple may provide aggregate App Store metrics and diagnostics under your Apple settings.
Your controls
You → Privacy lets you export your learning progress, share diagnostics if you choose, or reset your progress. A reset clears your learning history and plan while retaining subscription status and reminder and sound preferences. Removing the app removes its app storage subject to iOS storage and backup behavior. Sharing an export sends it only to the destination you select.
This website
This static website does not include analytics scripts, advertising, tracking pixels, or forms. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes network request information to deliver and protect the website. Emailing support sends the information you choose to include through your email provider.
